Eetcafe de Magere Brug

Old-fashioned cozy next to the most famous bridge in perhaps all of the Netherlands, is the Skinny Bridge. As it looks now, it dates from 1878, yet it is far from the only drawbridge in the city.
In fact: on the way to the Stopera you also have to cross such a wooden beautifully lit drawbridge. However, 'our' bridge has no fewer than nine passages and is therefore quite long.
This Magere is due to the original very narrow bridge from 1691 that connected both banks of the Amstel, ie Kerkstraat, with the new Kerkstraat.
It is said that two Mager sisters lived on opposite sides and could visit each other more easily.
Almost a century later, in 1871, the Skinny Bridge, as it was now called, was demolished due to dilapidation.
Its replacement was also a wooden double drawbridge and had nine passages, this nineteenth-century bridge had to be replaced some fifty years later.
We have heated the beautiful terrace by means of two Alke gas radiators.
