CO free

What is CO-free and why is it so important?
The new 'CO-free' legislation came into effect on 1 April 2023.

Since this date, a gas combustion installation in your home may only be maintained or replaced by a CO-free certified company. This means that a professional company must be called in for every installation at home, such as your central heating boiler, geyser, gas heater, pellet stove and fireplace, regardless of whether it is an open or closed system. This measure helps to ensure that no more victims fall victim to carbon monoxide poisoning and that every installation is and remains safe.

Legal requirements

An installation company does not simply receive the CO-free certificate. The fitters have undergone training for this, the working methods in the company have been adapted and special measuring equipment has been purchased. There is also a check to see whether the installation company continues to meet the legal requirements. These additional requirements imposed on the company entail costs. The installer may pass these costs on to his customers. The rate that the installer charges you may therefore be higher than in previous years. Extra costs are of course never fun. But let's be honest, the safety of you and your housemates is worth it, right?

CO-free certificate

You can recognize a certified company by the CO-free logo. You can ask the installer about this. He is obliged to show this. Can the installer not show you the CO-free logo? Then this means that he is also not allowed to work on your gas combustion system.

All companies that are CO-free certified are included in a register. You can find this register here: register.tlokb.nl/co/
